Joseph Gordon-Levitt had already proved himself more than capable of starring in a heroic role after playing what many fans thought would become Batman’s sidekick Robin in The Dark Knight Rises. Thus his name made sense when Deadline reported he was a contender in 2013.

John Krasinski

John Krasinski joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a brief appearance as Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four in 2022′s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. However, there are many reports that he had auditioned for other roles in the franchise before being cast. At the very least, he has confirmed that he was up for Captain America before Chris Evans was cast.

While John does not appear to have confirmed the rumors, DigitalSpy reported that he was also auditioning for Star-Lord in 2013. His name was a much later addition, and it is not clear how far he got.
